Dont worry. If your LC still in BEC with old PD you are more luckier than the guys going to file 485 now. DOL commited to clear backlong by Sep 2007. Oct VB will come up with priority dates in stone age. If your PD is very old you will get GC with in 6 months. Filing 485 in July and Aug with very new PD will not bring them any fruit. They have to wait more years. 750K 485 and 750K EAD and 750K AP will result in choking the CIS system. They will feel the challange of renewal on time.
I am very conficent that USCIS is not going to process all 750K at a time. They will definitly modify the processing method, fom current practice. First, they can not schudle FP for all 750K applicants in available ASC centers. So, they will sort the 485 based on PD, and process tham based on PD and country and catagory wise. My attorney says he cannot promise June 1 filing b'cos of volume...but not to worry b'cos date is current the entire month of June. Is that true? Does FIFO matter?

I filed for my wife's EAD in the late May (e-file TSC).
Receipt date is May 29th.
Soft LUD on June 6th
FP done on June 21st
no updates, no changes after that. there is no LUD after FP. It's been 66 days since filed. Does any one know if I can take Infopass appointement before I complete 90 days of pending status and see what's going on? Or do I have to wait until 90 days are complete? any experiences?

Congrats. Where was you application filed? TSC/NSC and your receipt dates?
NSC. 485 filed during the july'07 and rcvd date was in aug'07, notice date was in sept'07. For me start to end time was 5yrs. First job, single LC, i140, 485 appln...Kind of straight-forward (boring ;) ) case.

I and manish flew monday morning sept 17th on a short notice to attend 11:30AM appointment and then again at 3:30 PM with nagaraj.
We had 2 more appointments on 18th with NH senators.
All the meetings were great and one them exceeded 30 minute schedule to 50 minutes.
It was great to meet all the members like aman, jay, paskal, kanika, meenal, nagaraj, pappu, gopal etc.
Paskal: Where is my beer?
Gopal: "Don't shoot the messenger" in the situation room.
jay: Speech pointing fingure to capitol hill behind him. "We are here on offence".
Mike: Step1 to step 5 entertainment
These are some, but not all, of the memorable things in DC.
I really had to mention pappu seperately.
He is a dedicated person to this cause and needs special mention. I really enjoyed his company in the bus on our return journey to NH. We shooted all possible questions and got convincing answers.
Thanks again for the wonderful experience.

Folks if you want to know how to handle an interview... learn it from Pappu!! He was smooth (read slippery) as... soap?... hell anything that is smooth :)

My wife is on H4 visa with a valid I-94 (till Feb 2009) but her status will be on H1 from Oct 1st, 2007. Do we need to go for stamping before she starts working. Also who applies for SSN - Her employer and do we need to file ourselves. The employer kept the original H1. Do we need the original to apply for SSN? How soon can we apply for SSN?

You dont need to stamp your passport before you start working. Stamp is only needed to get into the US.
I think you have to go yourself and apply for SSN unless employer tells you otherwise. That's what my wife did. There are SSN offices everywhere. You can apply right away. Make sure you apply ASAP because unless you get your SSN, you cannot be paid and it takes a few days to get it. You need original documents. I have spoken about IV to several friends, colleagues, acquaintances and relatives who are stuck in retrogression or likely to be affected by it sooner or later. I have found it very hard to orally convey effectively what IV does and how it benefits people like them. Of those to I have spoken to only 4 or 5 have become members of IV. Also, I think a lot of people, including me, find it difficult (shy, I guess) to directly approach people and canvass about anything.
I have also sent emails to these and several others about IV. Not sure how many read it and how many have become members. Nowadays chain and mass emails have become so ubiquitous, most people ignore or delete them, no matter who sends them.
Someone might have already done this or proposed this already, not sure
Here is what I will be doing to increase awareness about IV:
I think direct mail, although costs money, is one of the most effective way of communicating ideas and organizations like IV. People take this more seriously than emails.
In the next few days I will make a list of people (at least 30) that I want to convey about IV to and send them direct mail about IV. This will be done by printing the brochures and text of email IV has published and send it to them via postal mail. I may not have the postal addresses of all of them, but I should be able to find out by doing a reverse lookup on their phone numbers. I am also thinking of sending it to their work address if I can not find their home address.
In a few days, I will post again letting you all know how many direct mails I sent.
Here is what IV can do:
If IV thinks this is an effective way to increase membership they can do the following: Have members send them postal addresses and money towards postage and stationery. E.g. 50 cents per address. IV can send postal mails to the people (addresses given by members).
I think this is better than members sending themselves because IV can fine-tune the message and messages have more gravity if it comes from a non-profit instead of an individual person. (Others may disagree with this statement). Some may want to canvass about IV but may want to remain anonymous. Those who do not want to remain anonymous should have the option of adding their name/address at some appropriate place in the letter.
Another suggestion is that IV should publish a comprehensive direct mail package (and guidelines) that can be downloaded and printed by members like me who want to send direct mails

some assumptions and calculations with answer = 750k . You are right to get this 750K approved it will take 5 years.. ...one more thing to consider is country level limitations. and EB1/2/3 limitations...ROW and China may already be catching up (may not even need 5 years)...India will need 50 years not 5 years to catch up.

Everyone knows both USCIS/DOS is mismanaging the process. However, What AILA was doing when DOS issued the visa bulletin 15 days back? Do you thing, AILA did not know the estimate of number of 485s going to be filed in the month of July? Why did not they call USCIS and DOS about the implication of making all categories current? Why did they not advised their client that there is a mistake in VB, it is not possible it will become current in just one month? All of sudden, why they are jumping and collects all the money from customers to file 485?
Here is my estimate how many 485s is going to be filed in July.
BEC has almost cleared all the backlogs. The rough estimate about 200,000 LC might have been certified by BEC. Let�s assume about 150K out of 200K candidates held back due to retrogression from 2004 to 2007. Let us assume 150 K PERM LC certified between March 2005 and June 2007 affected by retrogression. Therefore about 300K (primary) people will go for 485 in July. If we add dependents it will be another 450K. Therefore about 750K 485s+ 750K AP + 600K EAD applications will be filed in the month of july.
If 750K 485s filled in one month, we need about 5 years sum of EB visa numbers. It needs 5 years to issue the visa. There should be 750,000 EB visas should be immediately available as on July, to make all EB categories current. There are only 40,000 visas available as of June. Does AILA do not aware of this simple estimation?

I have a question here. Since TSC processing time is 04/30/2007 and NSC is 06/08/2007. Does that mean even EB-1 will have to wait until the processing time to their RD ?
eg, If you are EB-1 just file your 485 this month, but the processign center time not get to 04/2008 for another 2 years, then even you are EB-1 which is always current(for right now), you still not able to get your GC in two years ?

If we are claiming to be best and the brightest having high skills and inventing then it is EB1 and EB2 mostly. By law EB3 is mostly for people who have Bachelor degree and hardly any experience in their field to claim as EB2. It does not matter you are masters from Harvard but by law, if your job requires just a bachelor degree then you are doing basic work at lower management. Legally EB3 have no case if they claim to be best and the brightest inventors. All doctors get EB2 or EB1. All managers with advanced degrees get EB2. All Scientists and PhD holders get EB1 and EB2. So EB3 is mostly people who are low skilled programmers, people in professions doing lower line work or people who despite having higher degrees are doing jobs that do not need advanced skills to be the brightest folks immigrating in USA. There are some exceptions of people who are screwed by their lawyers and employers by forcing them in EB3. These people should fight with their lawyers and employers or change their jobs to EB2. EB3 do not have a strong legal case to fight for EB3 if they claim to be best and the brightest. It is very humiliating but you like it or not EB3 is grouped with EB3 Other Workers that are waiters, janitors, construction workers, Farm workers etc.
So if we PORT for EB2 then we also become best and brightest?
