It was a memorable trip indeed! 3 weeks before, I thought Houston to DC was a long shot. I kept reading the IV forums and saw the energy built up. Then I decided, I should definitely do something from my part even if I don’t attend the Rally. I said to myself, enough, I am going to announce in the Texas thread that I am willing to volunteer for the publicity work in Houston during the long weekend. That’s when I got a chance to talk to Texanmom. We had a conversation for about 40 minutes and once I finishing talking to her over the phone my position changed from “‘No way” to let me try to convince my friends and if I have company, I will go. I can always talk to my Boss later about taking a day off. Once I decided that, I kept calling all my friends in Houston. Sadly, I could not motivate people to buy tickets and fly with me to DC. My wife, then told me, if you want to go, you should go, don’t wait for your friends.
I am glad, I took that decision. The whole trip to DC was very memorable indeed. There were 3 of us in the same flight jayram123, Texanmom and myself. We had a volunteer (IV handle ?? – if you are reading this please tell me your IV Handle!), who picked us up and we all stayed in a hotel. Thanks for all your hospitality! We left very early and reached the location by 7:15 in the morning. It felt good to work with everyone and make the necessary preparation before the crowd started pouring in.
Early in the morning, GSC999 gave us a quick announcement session telling us what we need to do as volunteers and what was the plan. GSC999 - you energy was contagious. I was all ready and excited once I heard you talking about our plan for the day.
On of my best moment of the trip was handing out water bottles to all the participants who were standing besides the road showing their banners. This happened just before the actual Rally began. It was a nice feeling making all the folks comfortable and giving them water while they were all standing there for more than an hour flaunting their signs to the cars on the road. I was helping another volunteer in this effort and later found that he is from Houston too and is part of IV Core (please PM me your id if you are reading this). It felt so good that all of us were helping each other for our common cause.
---
You did a fabulous job. The registration process was so smooth that people didn't even notice it. It is always a pleasure to work with motivated people, in your words, who support the common cause.

I have paid SSN for many years now even I have received a letter about 3 months back stating I am eligible for cetain Social Security benefits .. and how many points I have accumulated so far.
Every month I pay this amount towards SSN. After paying SSN for many years, I still stand no privillege of early Green card, I am still stuck in Green card process.
I am sure there will be many people like me.
I also hate loosing SS Taxes. I mean we dont have any security in this country. We get 60 days to pack up if we loose our jobs and then they collect SS taxes from us. This is insane and a gross abuse of people on H1B. I think we are equally to blame to continue taking the abuse as the abusers. I fully support the clause that Green Card/Naturalization is a priveldge and not a right, but robbing me out of my money is not. I do support filing a lawsuit against this fully. I am sure if we pull one years worth of our SS taxes, then we can pay for this suit. We might win or loose but least we will have peace of mind that we faught for the right cause.

DOL filed my application for perm.work permit on March 2006. /so my Pd march 2006/ They approved this application. Then ,we sent the i-140 application form to USCIS.They sent it back, because the DOL made an error concering my salary. The DOL corrected this error and approved once again in October 2006. Now my i-140 is approved,USCIS transfered my case to NVC and to my atthorney in which the priority date is October 2006.Now I waiting for CP .What can I do in this situation? Thanks for Your respondings.

I am with you Sanhari. I will do the same..
I am writing to the local congressmen, to request USCIS to apply the spillover visas to EB cases with older priority date first (irrespective of it's category or country). I hope this will help, if lot of these local congressmen/women contact USCIS to handle this spillover in a fair manner, allocating to older priority date cases first irrespective of category or country. All EB3 folks please take some time and do the same writing to your congressmen about this issue.

Thats called "desperate". It happens in all aspects of life. Not just green card.
Very true. We are most vulnerable when we are desperate. But, we are learning to research deeper before believing anything. Thats the lesson learned from this episode.

Slammer, if you got visa number last year you should have gotten an interview months back, UNLESS your consulate appoinment schedule is backlogged.
Good luck
Sorry, should have said that the NVC had visa numbers for us - last year. Of course we won't hear anything from them until our PD becomes current.
But thanks for the tip to simply call the NVC and inquire about the status of our application, until now we only called the automated system and sent inquiries by email. Talking personally to someone might give some more information than the automated response :"Numbers are not yet available."
I'll keep you posted ! And good luck to us all in the future ! :)

Body shops want you to fake ur resume only when
(1) You want to get your wife a h1b placement through a body shop, who actually has no experience but you approach the body shop for filing ur spouse h1b
(2) You do Master's and want to get a placement through a body shop.
(3) Your skills are not marketable by body shopping requirements.
This part I totally agree because this is what my experience was through out the beginning of this year. I have 6years of experience. I last worked in 2004. So a lot of consulting firms were not willing to sponsor my H1. A few of them asked me to fake my resume to make for the 3 years gap. I did not do that. Finally I got a good desi start up which is doing my H1 at their own expense.
But now I am waiting to win my h1b lottery!!!!!

Pappu, please close this thread.
First of all, the topic of this thread is a total waste of time.
We hardly have enough support, funding, time etc. to fight GC related issue, and here people wasting time on discussing Citizenship! I am politely asking these people if any of you have contributed any of your time/money/effort to IV, Did you? Simply hypocrisy.
And top of that people in this thread are using extreme foul language.
Please close this thread.
You also made sarcastic comment in this thread about me. See if you guys do not like this idea better keep away from this thread instead of making sarcastic comments and harsh words.

Hi Guys,
When can we call I mean what are the office hrs for these people. I and most of the people in IV are in office right now and it might not be possible for them to call during regular business Hrs. Can some one update the thread with the Office times of these people It will make it easier for people to schedule the calls...
Print out the phone numbers and message, take a coffee break for 10-15 minutes and round up these offices. The offices are open only until 5 pm. Call them. Those 10-15 min are very well spent, IMO

I filed for my wife's EAD in the late May (e-file TSC).
Receipt date is May 29th.
Soft LUD on June 6th
FP done on June 21st
no updates, no changes after...
no updates, no soft LUDs on the case yet. It's been 74 days
My wife called USCIS last week. The customer rep was nice to talk but he gave no additional information than the online status update. He said you can call after 75 days and open a service request. So we plan to call tomorrow.
i'mpuzzled what's going on with the case...
has anyone in the similar situation opened a SR or taken infopass appointment? I'm thinking to take infopass but i guess it needs 90 days to be completed before that.. please share your experiences..

We need participation from all the mainland states, and need upwards of 200 members. Take the time to talk with your employers now, and register to be active on advocacy efforts in DC. The success of our advocacy lies with the number of enthusiastic and willing members we have in DC.
We need sponsorship of a bill and votes at the end of the day. Your efforts matter in getting both.
