I have been playing safe these many years..... I can't take anymore of Apartment living.... it was OK when kids were 2-3 years old... not anymore..... I guess... you need to be little aggressive.... ;)
As someone said, its a personal choice.
With no GC and the economy still looking south.....buying a house is not the ideal way of being aggressive. If kids are growing bigger and you need a bigger place, just rent a house.

May be this is not a prediction thread. But the OP and some others are all about VB in another thread or two. While I personally dont have any issue with it, it just frustates me that people dont understand that VB is not going to do any magic for PD's in 2003 or later. C mon Lets be realistic. After doing all the math in so many threads, Does any one expect that the PD will be some where in the ending of 2003. Hell no. Then why is that we have a Dec Bulletin thread way back? Now some one is gonna come start a Jan prediction thread. Useless. I hate to comment on this but I hope people understand the difference between discussion as you said(which I personally agree) and useless predictions when they can make educated guess and do something else.

Trust me my friend, I have seen it happen all the time, from large Telecom firm to Govt., its always there, most of the consultants just doesn't come to know about it, but the cut for the managers is there in some form, almost always. Why do each manager has a specific vendor through whom they want to hire most of the time? What else is the reason for the client to pay the consulting company $180/hr but they won't give 'valueablehurdle' anything more than $50-60/hr?
On a different note, now that NSG approved the waiver, most desi uncles, some of them are also owners of desi consulting companies will claim that they are the father of Nuclear deal. These bastards (sorry for my french) always oppose any GC fix and they tell their favorite congressman/senator (each has atleast one favorite politician for whom they do fund raisers) that gc backlog is not an important issue for the community. India Abroad, Times of India, rediff and other desi portals/newspapers will write 'Oliver North' style stories about these desi uncles knowing well that companies like GE etc put their weight behind the deal as it will create commerce to commerce over $20 billion/yr. But desi uncles/orgs will not stop claiming to be the father of nuclear deal. The fact is, most of these desi uncles made noise not because they wanted to do something for their country of birth, they are doing it because they think that if the nuclear deal passes, they can play middle man for US companies to sell the technology/material to Indian companies/govt. Most of the so called 'united voice of Indian-Americans on the Hill' organization's goal is to make big bucks by playing 'middle man' for companies wanting to sell technology to India. And as always, just as 'valuablehurdle''s client (paying $180/hr) Indian govt. will pay double the cost. These desi companies have squeezed blood of people waiting for gc, but now they think its time to move on to play big game with the big boys. Most of companies are like that. Only listing few companies on website does not help. Candidates should be aware of all the scenarios and think about difference scenarios.
here is what i suggest:
create a yahoo group or blog..and have ppl publish the name anonymously of the desi bloodsuckers...some kind of activism is required..instead of coming on this board like some ballless buggers and crying like babies...grow up and take back ur life...bytch..;-)
btw..i am not in IT so..i dont have to deal with suck suckers.. i have read so many posts abt this.. i am fed up..

75% of the people (close to 1000 people) where I work are consultants thro (US contracting companies, tcs, infosys, etc)....we are called supplemental workers here......if this bill passes, all of us would have to stop working.....I am sure there are other companies exactly in the same boat....whats gonna happen to this country? how will the businesses run?.....this is insane

I am exactly doing the same thing that anandrajesh mentioned above. I have my tickets booked for Nov 21st and its already more than 60 days for me. I have called them to expedite it. will be faxing the documents and letter to local congressman and uscis ombudsman today. I am not even sure why we pay so much of money to these people and do all this to just do their work. But what can we do, we are at their mercy.

as far as I know, you paying for H1b is not correct and is illegal and they will be accountable for this. Secondly, I heard the contract dont stand in court, especially when they are rude.
I think you have an option to report this employer to DOL/USCIS, for charging you the H1b expense. Companies should sponser H1b only when they genuinely need and can pay for the expense!
I am not a lawyer, so I recommend you consult one. Also feel free to communicate this issue to your employer and I guess you will be on your own!

Why not? Although I have applied for GC, I have no desire to take US citizenship, just to let you know. The majority does not mean the whole world and also does not mean everyone. There are Indian citizens that love India. Parents should be able to make decisions for their kids until they are 18. The kid can take US citizenship when he is 18 if parents have opted for Indian citizenship.

Question gurus... I have a xerox copy of my approved I-140. Will this be enough to port the priority date? or do you need the original copy to be submitted along with the new I-140 application when you request portability of older priority date?? please clarify.
Yes. That is suffice. My attorney asked for original and i told him, i have only I140 approval copy. Attorney asked additional proof like pay stubs, w2's from that employer. I submitted copies of pay stubs and w2's from that employer. My case is approved. waiting for the Notice copy. I will come to know once i receive the approval notice whether they ported priority date or not.

especially the reasons you gave as to why this bill is interesting...this bill does not scream employment based immigration but as I see it it does have has employment based visa provisions along with much wider and extensive family based gc provisions ..also there is no mention of temporaray visas / temp workers with tis bill..no mention of legalizing illegals to legal ....it is focussed exclusively on reducing waiting time for GCs for folks who are in the queue with more emphasis on family based

Based on this (although not sure where USCIS posted this date), the DOS wouldn't be able to use that data till the end of October (at the earliest) or early November (likely). Meaning that the December bulletin (issued ~mid-Nov) might be the one to watch for any movement (forward or backward).
